GREENCASTLE, Pa. (WHTM) -

An 18-year-old Franklin County woman died in a three-vehicle crash Thursday morning on Interstate 81 near Greencastle.

State police on Friday identified the driver as Ayron Paige Metcalf.

Metcalf, of Greencastle, was attempting to pass a tractor-trailer in the southbound lanes at mile marker 2.5 in Antrim Township when the two vehicles came into contact, police said.

Metcalf's 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier went across the grass median and into the northbound lanes, where it collided with a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 driven by 26-year-old Ryan Shannon, of Schnecksville, police said.

Metcalf died at the scene. Shannon sustained minor injuries and the driver of the tractor-trailer, 59-year-old Arthur Whipple, of Kane, was unharmed, police said.

The crash at 11 a.m. closed the northbound and southbound lanes. Traffic on I-81 South was detoured at Exit 3 until 3:30 p.m. I-81 North was shut down at Exit 1 until 5 p.m.
