Police: Crime ring behind thefts at state parks

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

A large organized crime ring is believed to be responsible for a series of thefts from vehicles at state parks.

State police said the "Felony Lane" ring, an organization suspected of crimes in several other states, has targeted five state parks and forests in Cumberland, Franklin and Perry counties since early August.

The thieves are preying on people who take long hikes or spend time on the water, and are parking their cars in secluded areas and leaving their valuables inside, police said. They steal credit cards and checkbooks and use them to make illegal purchases.

"Just a couple days ago we had individuals strike a park in Perry County, Little Buffalo State Park," Trooper Adam Reed said. "People found their cars broken into and less than an hour later we got reports coming from Colonel Denning State Park in Cumberland County for the
same thing."

Police said members of the ring have been using rental cars with license plates from other states.

They are asking people to avoid leaving valuables in their vehicles and to report any suspicious activity.
