A woman who found a burglar in her Lancaster County home told police she armed herself with a Swiss army knife and stabbed the intruder during a fight.
The woman told officers she woke up around 2:30 a.m. Friday and noticed her front door was standing open as she walked toward her kitchen, according to Columbia police.
She retrieved the knife and entered a bottom-floor living area where she found the intruder. She said the man attempted to flee the split-level home in the 1200 block of Staman's Lane, but the two got into a struggle and she stabbed him once in the upper left thigh before he escaped, police said.
Police searched the area but were unable to find a suspect.
The intruder got away with a small amount of cash and an unknown quantity of prescription medication, police said.
He was described as a white man in his late teens to early 20's, about 5'6" to 5'9" tall and 160-170 pounds, with a medium build, brown hair and some facial hair, and was said to be wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt and dark colored jeans, police said.
