Sandusky sentencing set for Oct. 9

BELLEFONTE, Pa. (WHTM) -

Jerry Sandusky will return to the Centre County Courthouse in three weeks to learn the penalty for his conviction on child sexual abuse charges.

The former Penn State assistant football coach is scheduled for sentencing on October 9.

The sentence will come immediately after a hearing to determine if Sandusky should be designated as a sexually violent predator.

Under Pennsylvania's Megan's Law, sexually violent predators must register their addresses with state police upon their release from prison.

It is likely that the 68-year-old former coach will never be released from prison, but the state attorney general's office still wants the sexually violent predator classification for Sandusky.

He was convicted in late June on 45 counts of child sexual abuse for abusing ten boys, some on the Penn State campus.
