CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -
Police in Chambersburg are still searching for the person who shot and killed 18-year-old Calvin Beam Monday night.
Police Chief David Arnold said Tuesday afternoon that he is "confident" his investigators will find the gunman.
Arnold said although it is very early in the investigation, officers have been following leads and interviewing people of interest.
He also said it does not appear to be a random shooting.
"I don't get the sense at this point that somebody was just running down the street firing random gunfire at cars or houses," Arnold said. "It was some type of disagreement."
Arnold added that the investigation will not stop until justice is served.
"A family lost their child. We want to hold whoever was involved accountable. That is the bottom line," he said.
Still, neighbors who live in the area of Franklin Street and Martine Avenue say they do not feel safe.
"For this to happen right here is very shocking and I wouldn't feel safe walking now," said Lisa Harper, who works at the Salvation Army where the shooting happened.
First responders are also surprised a shooting happened in the borough.
The incident happened very close to the Franklin Fire Company. Members rushed out to help Beam after witnesses came to the door for help.
Sergeant Jeremy Bilotti was one of the firefighters who tried to help Beam by giving him basic medical care until paramedics could get to the scene. He said he and fellow firefighters were upset to hear that Beam didn't make it.
"The guys did what they could. They did a good job," he said, "Unfortunately, it didn't work out the way we wanted it to."
Police are asking anyone who might have more information on the incident to call 911 and report it.
