I-81 N reopened after tractor trailer crash near Newville

NEWVILLE, Pa. (WHTM) -

I-81 northbound has reopened after an early morning crash involving two tractor trailers closed both lanes near the Newville exit in Cumberland County.

The accident happened around 3:00 a.m. Monday. The left hand lane was reopened around 9:45 a.m. and the right hand lane around 10:00 a.m.

Police said a tractor trailer became disabled and pulled off to the side of the road.  As that driver was setting up warning cones, police said a second tractor trailer struck the rig from the side. The driver of the second truck was taken to the hospital. The driver of the disabled tractor trailer was not injured.

Police believe one of the rigs was hauling tomatoes. The other was hauling garden mulch.  The crash caused diesel fuel to spill onto the road.  The one truck looked like a tangled mess of metal.
