YORK, Pa. (WHTM) -

York City Councilwoman Joanne Borders has died suddenly at the age of 67, the Democratic Party of York County said in a press release Tuesday.

"Joanne was a diligent and steadfast public servant throughout her life and served the city of York well in her short time as a councilwoman," they said in a release.

Borders, a York native, has been on city council since January, according to York City's website. Prior to serving on council, Borders spent 30 years working at the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare. Border has also received and been nominated for many local and statewide awards.
