HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Dauphin County prosecutors said bail was set too low for a suspect in a weekend shooting spree in Harrisburg, so they are petitioning a higher court to change it.

Corey Eden Jr., 16, is charged with three counts of attempted homicide as well as assault. A district judge set his bail at $100,000, which Eden posted on Monday using a bail bondsman.

First Assistant District Attorney Fran Chardo said Eden and another teen showed a reckless disregard for public safety when they went on a wild shooting spree Saturday night along North 6th Street and into Reservoir Park.

They are charged with shooting at several cars, including a pickup truck. At one point, police said the teens drove their SUV towards an officer who then had to fire his weapon. No one was seriously injured.

Chardo said the district judge who set the bail did nothing wrong, but his office has a right to appeal it.

"It's part of reviewing the public's safety, to check to make sure that offenders who pose a continuing danger to the community are locked up and aren't out on the street committing more crimes," Chardo said. "The defendant has the right to bail in some amount, but we are asserting to the court that $100,000 is not enough, so we're asking the court to raise it."

A Dauphin County Court of Common Pleas judge will consider the petition over the next few days and could decide to hold a bail hearing.

The other suspect, 18-year-old Tyshaun Thornton, has not posted bail and remains in Dauphin County Prison.
