PLAYERS

Brandon Inge – Oakland Athletics Third Baseman (Brookville H.S./VCU)

Inge played his entire career for Detroit until they let him go early this season. He signed with the A's and started at third for them until he injured his shoulder. He did take ground balls this past Tuesday but still can't throw. He's been on the 60-day DL and will not be on the postseason roster. It's unlikely the A's will pick up the $6 million option they have on him for 2013.

Sean Doolittle – Oakland Athletics Relief Pitcher

He played first base and pitched for UVa. He tried to make it as a position player but when he was unable to accomplish that, the A's challenged him to become a relief pitcher. He started his minor league career all over again but shot up quickly through the ranks and has been an integral part of the A's late season playoff push.

Mark Reynolds – Baltimore Orioles First Baseman

He came up with the Diamondbacks but is in his second season in Baltimore. He struggled offensively for most the season but his power numbers have improved recently.

Joe Saunders – Baltimore Orioles Starting Pitcher

Since leaving Blacksburg he's been all over the MLB map. He was traded this season from Arizona to Baltimore and there's a chance he could start the wild card game against the Texas Rangers, but the Orioles have not named a starter yet.

Mark Berman of the Roanoke times recently profiled him here.

Ryan Zimmerman – Washington Nationals Third Baseman

He's been in the big leagues since 2005 but he'll get his first taste of the postseason on Sunday. It took him half a season to get the bat going but after taking a cortisone shot his offensive numbers have been nothing short of impressive.
