HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -
Pennsylvania Secretary of Health Dr. Eli Avila has resigned from his job.
Avila tendered his resignation Thursday and said he planned to pursue other interests, according to a news release from Governor Tom Corbett's office.
Avila also planned to spend more time with his family. His wife and children had not relocated to Pennsylvania and had remained at their home in Albany, New York when Avila took the cabinet post in 2011.
Michael Wolf, the department's current executive deputy secretary, will serve as acting secretary until Corbett names Avila's successor.
