HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -
If you ever feel sluggish about going to work, take a cue from a Midstate priest.
Monsignor Vincent Topper is the oldest and longest serving priest on the Harrisburg Catholic Diocese.
He turned 100 years old in July and he continues to deliver the Sunday mass at Saint Catherine Laboure near Harrisburg.
He grew up in Hanover and was ordained in 1936, with church and education as his life-long passions.
"The last parish I was in, I added 16 classrooms to the parish of Saint Joe's in York, so it was a joy bringing Christ to people, and how important it is to educate the children -- not just educate their minds but educate in the hearts," Topper said.
"For his age, he's just right on the mark. He calls it like he sees it and he gives you something to take home and think about every week," parishioner Diana Bekelja said.
Monsignor Topper says he got the calling from God to become a priest way back in the second grade.
