This bear was spotted Saturday evening near the Carlisle Country Club.
CARLISLE, Pa. (WHTM) -
Police in North Middleton Township, Cumberland County are reporting a number of black bear sightings in the past few days.
Officers and residents spotted a large bear Monday night in the area of Brookwood Drive, Northview Manor, Northridge, and Cross Creek areas, where it destroyed bird feeders and emptied garbage dumpsters.
Officers said they used noise-producing rounds to scare the bear away.
Police also said a bear weighing between 200 and 300 pounds was frightened away from the 100 block of Tower Circle of NorthView Manor early Tuesday after dumping over garbage in the area.
Another sighting was reported Saturday evening near the Carlisle Country Club in neighboring Middlesex Township. That bear was estimated to be between 250 and 300 pounds.
North Middleton police advised residents to take precautions and not confront bears. They said bird feed and garbage cans should be locked in a shed or garage.
