CAMP HILL, Pa. (WHTM) -

Updated at 1:10 p.m. to correct an error in the second paragraph. The store has been open for 32 years, not 23.

A popular midstate Christmas and collectible store began the first day of its liquidation sale this morning.

Kathie's Christmas and Collectibles, a 32-year-old landmark in Cumberland County, is going out of business because owner Kathie Hughes is retiring. She expects the shop to close by the end of the year.

The store opened at 10 a.m. Thursday and over a dozen shoppers were in line 30 minutes before the store opened. Shoppers can also enter for their chance to win a 2013 Hyundai.

The store was closed Wednesday while Hughes and her staff set up for today's big liquidation sale.

Kathie's Christmas and Collectibles has long, successful history. Hughes opened the shop back in 1980 because of her love of everything Christmas. She says business has been booming ever since.

Hughes is closing the shop because she and her husband want to retire and spend more time with family. As of right now, she has no plans to sell the business, but is considering it.

"We would be happy to sell the business to somebody else, so if you know anybody, let us know," she said Wednesday. "It's very difficult. I don't know that the scope of what we have here would be the perfect fit for a lot of people to buy it."
