HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

A 10-year-old boy is recovering from serious injuries after police said he was bitten by a pit bull inside a home in Midtown Harrisburg.

When officers arrived on the scene, they said they had to use their guns.

It happened shortly after 6:00 Thursday evening at a home on the 2000 block of Green Street. Police said the pit bull bit the boy four times.

Officers put the dog in a cage and were set to take him away when they said another pit bull in the home attacked them. The officers fired at that dog several times to kill it.

The dog in the cage was taken to the Humane Society.

The boy was taken to Harrisburg Hospital, but was later transferred to Penn State Hershey Medical Center because of the severity of his injuries.

Police said charges may be filed against the woman who owns the dogs.
