MIDDLETOWN, Pa. (WHTM) -
Two teens are in custody after a loaded handgun was found at Middletown High School late Friday afternoon.
Police were called to the school Friday afternoon and the weapon was confiscated without incident. Police took a 16 and 17-year-old into custody after the weapon was found in the restroom.
The school district said because "the incident occurred late in the day and circumstances surrounding the event are still being uncovered" the middle and high school homecoming dances have been postponed until next Friday night.
"The District regrets the need to take this action and apologizes for this inconvenience," the email said, "but trusts that the community can appreciate the need to place student safety as the priority."
The district said there would be additional police presence at homecoming activities scheduled for Saturday.
Lower Swatara Township Police said the case is being investigated by the Middletown School Resource Officer.
