HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -
The Pride of the Susquehanna became stuck after gliding over a gravel bar during a fall foliage dinner cruise Sunday night.
Andrew Ponti, Executive Director of the Harrisburg Area Riverboat Society, said Monday that no passengers were injured and there is no damage to the boat.
Approximately 50 people were onboard the Pride when it ran aground just north of City Island around 7 p.m.
Ponti said the captain attempted to move the riverboat because the paddle wheels were able to turn, but he was unsuccessful in his efforts.
The passengers were alerted to what happened, and all seemed in good spirits and to be enjoying themselves in spite of the situation, Ponti said.
Passengers were eventually ferried back to shore by River Rescue while the captain and crew continued to work at freeing the Pride, Ponti said.
Ponti said the incident is not a normal occurrence. He said the vessel remained stuck on the gravel bar Monday morning and the crew was attempting to return it to the dock.
