Middletown homecoming dance not yet rescheduled

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. (WHTM) -

The Middletown Area School District was expected to come up with a new date for homecoming dances on Monday, but nothing official has been set.

The dances were postponed Friday after two students were taken into custody for having a gun in the high school. Lower Swatara Township police said they charged a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old after one of them hid the weapon in a boys restroom and the other was seen putting the gun in his backpack.

Parents and residents who spoke with abc27 News said they wish the school had been more transparent.

"I found out through Facebook that this happened, that a loaded gun was taken to school, and it's like parents and people in the community should not be finding out through Facebook," said Paula Moose, owner of Middletown's Syren Salon.

Both teens are facing charges including possession of a weapon on school property, possession of a firearm by a minor, terroristic threats, and possession of marijuana. Police have not released their names.
