HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

The chairman of the Pride of the Susquehanna says it was act of kindness that sent the riverboat back to its dock a day after it became stuck on a gravel bar.

Approximately 50 people were onboard the riverboat when it ran aground Sunday evening just north of City Island during a fall foliage dinner cruise. It was eventually dislodged late Monday afternoon.

Jeffrey Tinsman, chairman of the Pride of the Susquehanna, said the boat was pushed off the shoal with a piece of construction equipment owned by Harcon Industries of Paradise and Harry Stoltzfuse and driver Eric Graham.

Tinsman said he was in his office overlooking the Susquehanna when he saw the amphibious equipment leave City Island and go up the river to work on the Harvey Taylor Bridge.

The men were asked if they could move the Pride afterwards and they agreed, Tinsman said.

It is likely the boat would have remained stranded until the river level went higher.
