HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -
A Wednesday morning fire caused $40,000 in damage and left a family displaced from their home in Susquehanna Township, Dauphin County.
Township Fire Marshal George Drees said firefighters arrived in the 2200 block of Walnut Street shortly after 2 a.m. and found heavy smoke coming from the front of the home.
Firefighters were assisting the three residents when the front room flashed over. Two of the residents suffered burns, but refused medical treatment despite advice to get it, Drees said.
The fire was contained to the front room and under control in 15 minutes.
The American Red Cross is assisting the home owner.
Drees said the fire was determined to be accidental and was started by a space heater that was placed too close to a chair.
