Poll: Romney takes lead over Obama in Pa.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Mitt Romney has taken the lead over Barack Obama in Pennsylvania and now leads the President by a four-point margin, according to a new statewide poll.

The poll conducted by Susquehanna Polling and Research on behalf of the Republican State Committee of Pennsylvania found that 49 percent of likely voters now support Romney while 45 percent plan to vote for Obama.

Obama led Romney 50-46 percent in an SP&R survey conducted October 12-14. The latest poll was conducted 11-13, prior to Tuesday's debate.

An additional two percent are voting for Libertarian Gary Johnson and one percent are backing Green Party candidate Jill Stein. Only two percent remain undecided.

Romney has a strong lock on the GOP vote, winning Republicans by an 86-9 margin, while still gathering 18 percent of the Democratic vote and leading by 12 points among registered Independents, 47-35 percent, according to the poll.

The poll also found that Republican Senate candidate Tom Smith now leads Democratic U.S. Senator Bob Casey, 48-46 percent. Casey led Smith 48-45 percent in an SP&R poll conducted October 12-14.

The telephone survey of 1,376 likely voters has a margin of error of plus-or-minus 2.64 percentage points.
