Bruce Springsteen Holds Free Campaign Concert in Charlottesville

Charlottesville, VA - Bruce Springsteen is a well-known fan of President Obama, and Tuesday, he's holding a free concert in Charlottesville in the hopes of sending more votes the president's way.

When the boss comes to town, it's a big deal. When the boss comes to town, and holds a free concert, political affiliation, for some goes right out the window.

"Bruce Springsteen is doing a concert that you can buy a ticket for that night, but you can come down during the afternoon and see one for free. It's pretty crazy to be able to see Bruce Springsteen for free," said Obama Campaign volunteer Adam Rhea.

At the Charlottesville Obama headquarters, a campaign office turned into a box office.

"It kind of harkens back to The Beatles standing up on the roof and doing a free concert, or people just popping up at the park in a city and doing one. It's the kind of thing you remember for a long time," said Rhea.

With each ticket given was an Obama Campaign sticker.

Most people getting a ticket were Democrats.

"We're Obama supporters," said one woman.

"It's a pretty democratic friendly community, and so that's one of the reasons why it's generating so much enthusiasm," said one man.

We bumped into a Republican who also said he was a Bruce fan. Don is from Michigan in town on a visit, and putting his political partisanship on hold for a moment.

"Let's put it this way, I'll just have to put a state of mind of saying, it's just a concert, and tolerate it," he said.

And Bruce fans say that's the point. Because after all, red or blue, we were all born in the USA.

The boss begins campaigning for the ultimate boss at 2 p.m. Free tickets are still available at the Charlottesville campaign office.
