DOVER, Pa. (WHTM) -

A York County man was sent to a hospital Wednesday morning after he was attacked by a cow, according to police.

Northern York County Regional police said the 45-year-old Dover Township male was attempting to tag the ear of a calf in the 3900 block of Eagle Scout Road when the calf's mother defended her young by head-butting the man in the chest.

Once the man was knocked to the ground, the cow began to stomp on him, police said.

The man's injuries were described as moderate.

The cow and calf were uninjured.
