GLEN ROCK, Pa. (WHTM) -

A York County woman was arrested Monday night after she jumped into the flooded Codorus Creek so that she could save a flush of ducks, according to police.

Southern Regional Police said 41-year-old Justina Laniewski, of Glen Rock, was intoxicated when she jumped into the creek behind Glen Rock Hose and Ladder Company.

Laniewski feared that the 20-30 wild ducks would be hurt or killed because of Hurricane Sandy and the rising flood waters, police said.

She had to be rescued because of the fast turbulent water. Police said she placed several firefighters in danger because of her recklessness.

Laniewski was evaluated by EMS at the scene and arrested by police on charges of risking a catastrophe, reckless endangerment, public drunkenness, and disorderly conduct. She was later released on $5,000 unsecured bail.
