A 20-year-old man died Tuesday night in a wrong-way crash on Route 283 in Lancaster County.

Northwest Regional police said that according to witness reports, Harley David Johnson, of Parkesburg, was driving a red Kia eastbound in the westbound lanes and collided head-on with a tractor-trailer hauling 40 head of dairy cows.

The crash occurred near the Elizabethtown Road overpass in Mount Joy Township at around 10:30 p.m.

Johnson's passenger, 18-year-old Ashley Kreider, of Paradise, was transported to Penn State Hershey Medical Center where she was listed in serious condition.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, 55-year-old Garwood Moyer, of New Albany, Pa., was not injured.

Route 283 westbound was closed in the area for nearly seven hours while police investigated.

No cows were injured.

Police continue to investigate why Johnson was traveling in the wrong direction and are looking for witnesses, including people in a van who were sideswiped by the Kia.

Anyone with information is asked to call Northwest Regional police at 717-367-8481.
