SCRANTON, Pa. (WHTM) -

During his acceptance speech Tuesday evening, Senator Bob Casey told supporters that there are still several challenges ahead for Pennsylvanians and that it is time to get to work.

Twelve hours later, he was back in his Scranton office, ready to roll up his sleeves.

"The first thing we have to do in terms of the work in Washington is to get together to figure out how to conclude this year on a high note," he said. "That means making sure we bring Democrats and Republicans together."

Casey told supporters Tuesday night that during this second term, he will continue to work to help create jobs for Pennsylvanians. He said the current numbers are better than they were, but still not good enough.

"We are moving in the right direction creating jobs at a fast pace, but we need to quicken that pace to grow the economy," he said. "I think the potential is great if we get people working together. That's the challenge."

Out of 99 percent of voters across the state, Casey won 54 percent of the vote over Republican opponent Tom Smith, who received 45 percent.

Casey will be only the third Democratic U.S. Senator to serve a second term in over 100 years. He said that is a true honor.
