HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -
Police have arrested a 14-year-old boy for making a bomb threat Wednesday morning that lead to the evacuation of every school in the Susquehanna Township School District.
"The school will blow up in two hours," the caller told the person on the other line at the district's office.
Police said the call that came in around 9 a.m. was traced and they later took the boy into custody. He was charged with making terrorist threats and threatening to use a weapon of mass destruction.
District officials had evacuated nearly 3,000 students, including the suspect, from four different schools.
High school freshman Shaqwan Franklin said he was startled when an announcement was made over the public announcement system.
"I was nervous a little bit because I didn't know what was going on," said Franklin. "I didn't know if it was real or fake. So, I just listened and went to the football field."
Huddled inside the stadium, students waited for almost two hours as police swept each building. In the end, police did not find a bomb and students returned to the classrooms by 12:30 p.m.
"This is the first time I've ever heard this happen," Franklin said.
District officials said it is policy to allow parents and guardians to pick up students during an emergency.
