Middletown borough council members want to look into a regional police force. No changes have been made yet, but a meeting had people fearing the worst for their police force.
One group protested outside the borough meeting before Tuesday's meeting. They wanted to show their support for the department.
"Just being out here showing our support for them I think is enough," Middletown resident Cortez Jackson said.
Once inside, folks pulled no punches. In a packed borough council chambers, one woman could not contain herself. The resident yelled out in the middle of a presentation.
"What you are doing is wrong," the woman screamed.
Councilman David Rhen ran the show, listing by name how much officers make, and showing a power point presentation displaying increases in the department. Rhen also argued that crime is down in the area.
Not only that, but a budget deficit is looming.
Afterwards, council agreed to look into a regional police force. Members simply agreed to have staffers look into the matter and ask leaders in surrounding areas if they are interested.
