Parents react to classroom fire at Wilson Middle School

CARLISLE, Pa. (WHTM) -

As news of an emergency going on at Wilson Middle School started to spread, parents say they started to panic.

One mother said she was told that a bomb had gone off, another parent said she had no idea that anything was going on at all.

According to officials, the parents of the students who were injured in the incident were called immediately.  Other parents were informed, within an hour of the incident, via mass email and text message alerts.

After hearing about the fire that broke out inside a science classroom, some parents came to Wilson Middle School and signed their children out early, even though classes had resumed and school dismissed at the normal time.

Bryce Pullen signed her son out early.  She wasn't upset with the school, but just wanted her son home.

"It's like they are taking precautions -- very well -- but it's nerve racking for a parent on the other side," Pullen said.

Another parent, Jody Wiley, waited until the end of the school day to pick up her daughter.  She said she heard about the incident on the news and wished the school would have called her.

"The school should have contacted me, all the parents, a lot sooner," she said.
