Middletown Borough Council voted in favor of taking a look at merging police services with surrounding municipalities. Officials say regionalization could help trim costs from the police department's budget of $2.9 million. Some residents expressed concern that a consolidation would put public safety at risk.
The borough will work with the Department of Community and Economic Development during the evaluation process. They hope to get grant money from the agency to fund the study.
Middletown officials have not had any formal talks with any municipalities. The next council meeting is December 3.
