A volunteer youth leader at a Dauphin County church has been arrested on charges he had sexual contact with a girl over the last three years, starting when she was 12.
Joshua Mitchell Markelwitz, 26, of Enola, was charged Friday with counts including rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, aggravated indecent assault, unlawful contact with a minor, and disseminating photo/film of child sex acts, according to Lower Paxton Township police.
Police said the girl, now 15, told them the incidents occurred at her home, in Markelwitz's car, and at the Charlton United Methodist Church where Markelwitz was a volunteer youth leader.
According to the criminal complaint, Markelwitz gave the teenager rides to and from church for guitar lessons and other activities.
Wayne Davis is a former member of the church who says he expressed his concern to a former pastor that Markelwitz was spending too much time with the girl without an additional adult being present. Davis says nothing was done until the new pastor took over.
Markelwitz was being held in Dauphin County Prison on $750,000 bail.
