Woman, child held at gunpoint during home invasion

Starring down the barrel of a machine gun, a woman and her 9-year-old son were held at gunpoint while four men ransacked their Dauphin County home early Tuesday morning.

Those who live there describe the Chesapeake Mobile Home Park near the Hollywood Casino as a tight-knit neighborhood. When Kristyn Adams heard her neighbor was held at gunpoint, she immediately "freaked out."

"We've never heard of somebody having a machine gun," said Adams. "Most people my age walk around here with knives all the time, but not a machine gun."

State police said four men wearing black clothing, ski masks, and gloves entered the home on Dallas Street in East Hanover Township around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday and held the woman and her son in the bedroom where they had been sleeping.

Police said the men rummaged through cabinets and drawers for prescription drugs and money, but also asked for a specific person who was not home at the time. The woman and young boy were not harmed.

The woman's 19-year-old son told abc27 News the men were after him, but said he had no idea why. The young man said that after the four men left, he came home to check on his mother and brother and saw a silver sedan on the street.

The young man said he ran to grab the license plate number, and that is when the car sped off, drove around the block, and then darted toward him. He said he jumped out of the way but was able to kick and break off a side mirror to give to police.

Police have interviewed the young man.

Alexis Backenstoes said whether or not the home was targeted does not make a difference.

"I don't feel safe," she said. "When my dad told me about it this morning, I was kinda like, ' alright I'm going to take my dog out with me to my car.' I walked him back inside and I was feeling a little uneasy."

Backenstoes is not alone. Another neighbor told abc27 News that she is "not surprised" a crime like this occurred nearby.

"I believe in I have God and Christ that can protect me," she said. "If I keep thinking about everything bad, I'd be a nervous wreck."
