HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

A man shot in the parking lot of a Harrisburg restaurant escaped serious injury but was sent to Dauphin County Prison for drug violations, according to police.

Anthony Thompson, 30, told officers he had gone to the Popeye's restaurant in the 1900 block of N. Cameron Street for food Monday afternoon when a vehicle pulled up to him and a man shot him for no reason, city police said.

Thompson had a grazing wound to the back of the head and the car he was driving was damaged by gunfire. A witness drove him to Harrisburg Hospital where he was treated and released, police said.

He was later taken into custody for the drug violations after officers at the hospital saw him pass a small box to his girlfriend, and found the box contained cocaine packaged for sale, police said.

Witnesses to the shooting followed the gunman's car to the 2400 block of Reel Street. Officers searched a home where the car was located, but no suspects were found, police said.

Anyone with information may call Harrisburg police at 717-255-3157 or 717-255-7298.
