Harrisburg City Council has approved Bruce Weber as its newest member.
Weber replaces Patty Kim, who resigned last month after she was elected to the state House of Representatives.
Weber was one of six finalists that were chosen last week from a list of 32 applicants. He survived a nominating and voting process Tuesday night that featured several votes being held before Weber could get the necessary four votes needed to win the seat.
Councilwoman Susan Brown-Wilson was the one who first nominated Weber. She remembered him attending meetings in the past.
"I just think Mr. Weber could best serve Council having been here in the past," she said. "I'm looking forward to working with him and I think he's looking forward to working with all of us."
Weber works in the state Department of Revenue. He declined to speak with the media after the meeting, but issued a statement that said he was "humbled and honored to have been chosen" and that he "looks forward to getting to work on behalf of the people of Harrisburg immediately."
