Andrew R. Moyer Sr. and Brianna E. Michael
COLUMBIA, Pa. (WHTM) -
A Lancaster County couple accused in the death of their infant son will remain in prison while their case heads to trial.
Andrew R. Moyer Sr., 24, and Brianna E. Michael, 23, of Columbia, waived their preliminary hearings Friday before District Judge Robert Herman, who scheduled a formal arraignment for January 30.
Moyer and Michael will remain in Lancaster County Prison without bail for the death of 6-week-old Andrew R. Moyer Jr., who was found dead October 18 at the couple's apartment in the 100 block of Locust Street.
Each is charged with criminal homicide, conspiracy, and several felony counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
Prosecutors said the couple tortured the
baby, refused to get him medical treatment, and struck him on the head
until he died.
An autopsy revealed the baby had been abused
for at least a week before he died of the head injuries.
The child also suffered multiple traumatic injuries in
addition to those to his head; including nine broken ribs, facial
injuries, burn marks and massive injuries to his genitals, according to investigators.
Lancaster County District Attorney Craig Stedman has said there is no chance the injuries were accidental. He said he has not ruled out seeking the death penalty in the case.
