HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

The Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education and the union representing about 6,000 faculty members at the state-owned universities have canceled a bargaining session scheduled for Wednesday.

PASSHE spokesman Kenn Marshall said the bargaining session was canceled by mutual agreement.

The two sides plan to resume talks on January 4.

Union members of the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties voted overwhelmingly last month to give their leadership the authority to call a strike.
