HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -
The North 7th Street Bypass in downtown Harrisburg will reopen at noon Thursday after an 18-month closure.
The bypass was closed during construction to replace the 40-year-old electrical substation that powered the state Capitol Complex.
Department of General Services spokesman Troy Thompson said normal traffic patterns will resume, meaning all through-traffic turning right from 5th Street onto Walnut Street will no longer be redirected eastbound across the State Street Bridge.
The bypass was closed on June 13, 2011 and is opening on schedule, Thompson said.
The substation replacement project, which is near completion, included construction of a new building, the demolition and replacement of units and the installation of a feeder distribution system.
