CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -
An 11th grade student brought a BB gun to Chambersburg Area High School this morning, the school district said in a statement on its website.
"At 8:45 a.m. it was reported to a teacher that a student was carrying a weapon. At 8:50 a.m. an 11th grade student was detained and found to be in possession of a BB pistol. The student is now in police custody. At this time, the school is safe."
This incident comes exactly one week after a gunman entered a Connecticut elementary school and killed 20 children and six adults. A national moment of silence for the victims was held at 9:30 a.m.
Officials at Chambersburg School District say the school will continue with their plan for a two hour early dismissal.
