Student faces charges for texting school shooting prank

Posted: Updated:
LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) -

Lancaster police said they will file charges against a student at JP McCaskey East High School who sent a prank text message that indicated there had been a shooting at the school.

The student sent the text Friday to a friend at Lampeter-Strasburg High School, who attempted to verify if the text was real or a joke. The McCaskey East student indicated it was not a joke, police said.

The Lampeter-Strasburg student contacted school officials, and the staff at McCaskey East was notified of the incident and given the identity of the McCaskey East student, who later admitted to police to sending the text as a prank.

Police said they plan to charge the McCaskey East student with disorderly conduct before Lancaster County Juvenile Probation.
