CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Parents of Chambersburg Area High School students said they were very pleased with how the district handled an incident at the school on Friday morning.

According to assistant superintendent Cathy Dusman, around 8:45 Friday morning a student told a teacher that someone had brought a weapon into the building. Action was taken immediately and within minutes police had an 11th grade student in custody.

Just a few minutes later, Dusman said an emergency alert call was sent to parents.

"We felt, as a district, it was extremely important for us to immediately get information out to parents so they heard one consistent message that was accurate and that's what we did," she said.

Many parents including Jodi Furry said getting information from school officials so quickly was comforting.

"It was nice because we knew before it was out in the public," Furry said.

Other parents said it made them feel confident that the district is very prepared for an emergency.

School officials said the incident is being taken very seriously. Police officers are investigating and say they will take appropriate action.
