If you hear a loud noise coming from northern Lancaster tonight, it's likely propane cannons being used to scare crows off the mall rooftop.
Patrons and passerby's will not be able to see anything -- but they will definitely hear the cannons being fired from Park City Center between 4:30 and 6 p.m., said Captain Charles Schmidt of Lancaster City Police.
General Growth Properties, which owns Park City Center, said they will have one cannon at each end of the mall roof tonight. Previously, the company put crow effigies on the roof to try to prevent crows from landing, but that didn't take care of the problem.
These types of cannons have been used in the past, and Laurie Fuller, a consultant on crow behaviors, says the plan was designed to utilize the minimum amount of noise necessary to deter crows.
