Dauphin Co. woman charged for abusing 2 horses

GRANTVILLE, Pa. (WHTM) -

Police say a Dauphin County woman did not properly feed two horses.

Janie L. Jeskey, 60, was charged Friday with two counts of cruelty to animals. Police say her two Thoroughbred horses, one mare and one gelding, were very thin when they searched a Grantville property earlier this month.

The horses were removed from Jesky's care on December 19. The horses were examined and hospitalized at the nearby Horseshoe Valley Equine Center before being transferred to Happy Tails Holistic Rescue Rehabilitation and Sanctuary in Northumberland County last week.

The horse's caretaker at Happy Tails has renamed them Noel and Elf. Due to crowding at Happy Tails, the horses are being kept at a farm in Ickesburg, Perry County. To receive updates on the horses conditions, you can follow Happy Trails on Facebook.

The horses are expected to recover. Jeskey is faced with a $750 fines per charge and 90 days in jail. However, Trooper Colleen Shelly said offenders are almost never sent to jail.
