A Lebanon County man escaped serious injury when he jumped from his SUV just moments before it slid into the path of a moving freight train.
Annville Township police said David Gardner, of Annville, was treated for minor injuries at the Moyer Street railroad crossing early Monday and released.
Gardner told officers he felt he was losing control of the Jeep Grand Cherokee on the slippery road and felt he would not be able to stop for the approaching train.
He jumped from the SUV and the Jeep continued onto the tracks and was struck by the train at around 1:30 a.m., police said.
Annville Township police and Norfolk Southern are investigating the incident.
