PALMYRA, Pa. (WHTM) -
The Humane Society of Harrisburg Area said it removed five horses from a Dauphin County farm because the animals were extremely malnourished and in danger of dying.
Humane Society executive director Amy Kaunas said the horses were seized Friday from the property in the 700 block of Laudermilch Road in East Hanover Township.
Kaunas said about 30 horses were being kept on the farm. She said the five animals seized were in the worst condition and in need of immediate veterinary care.
She said the Humane Society also found four dead animals that are believed to be horses, but are badly decomposed.
Kaunas said the Humane Society is going to issue citations against the owner, and there is a potential that more horses will be taken from the farm.
She said the horses received very little food and medical care, and were left to breed and die without any management or care.
