Harrisburg woman attacked for purse

Posted: Updated:
HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

A Harrisburg woman told police she was robbed of her purse by two young men who grabbed her and threw her to the pavement.

The victim, a 30-year-old Midtown resident, reported she was walking north on James Street when she saw the two men approach her from the Cumberland Court apartments Friday night.

She said the men followed her and one asked for a cigarette. When she replied that she had none to give, he attacked her, police said.

The woman said she tried to hold onto the purse and the robber violently pulled it, tearing the straps. The contents of the purse spilled onto the pavement and the robbers grabbed the valuables and ran off, police said.

The victim suffered bruises and pain from the attack.

She described the robbers black males between 19-23 years old; one tall with a thin build and wearing a blue "puffy" coat with a red lining, police said. The other was said to have a chubby build and was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt.

Anyone with information may call police at 717-255-3157 or 717-255-3114.
