York ushers in New Year happy to continue tradition

YORK, Pa. (WHTM) -

The New Year's Eve party started early in York's Continental Square. They called it a "New Year Revolution" and it included a night a full of food, fun, live music and of course the White Rose, which was dropped at the stroke of midnight.

There were early evening activities for the kids that included a 7:30 p.m. rose drop.

Many told us it was a fun event for all, but the fun almost didn't happen this year.

Back in November, city officials said the money just wasn't there and they had to cancel the annual event.

It was in early December that the White Rose drop was saved by Sprint. The company donated $20,000.

$15,000 was collected by other generous donors and the celebration was back on.

Organizers told us getting an event together in such a short period of time was tough, but it appeared that everything went off without a hitch.

"Its good we can all get together and celebrate the new year," Nicole Fornwalt from Kirkwood said.
