CARLISLE, Pa. (WHTM) -

New parents Catarina and Brian Kuykendall had pride in their eyes as they looked at their brand new son, Dallas, who was born at 6:30 New Year's morning. Dallas weighed seven pounds, one ounce.

Though many parents, may wish for their babies to be born in time for the December 31 tax break deadline, The Kuykendalls were worried about a different deadline.

Brian Kuykendall, an Army mechanic, was set to leave for Louisiana on Tuesday to prepare for an upcoming deployment to Afghanistan.  Since his wife was in labor, he got a 10 day extension.

He says he is very grateful he could be there for the birth of his son, but knows leaving will be difficult.

"It's actually really hard, I'm just happy I get to see him as much as I do now, I just have to make the best of the time I have with him," he said.

His wife agreed but is very supportive of her husband.

"It's hard. It's very hard some days, but you just got to stay strong,"she said.
