HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -
A natural gas leak forced employees to evacuate an office building on the Capitol Complex in Harrisburg.
The leak near the intersection of North Street and Commonwealth Avenue also disrupted traffic Wednesday on streets within a block of the complex.
Reports say that the leak is under Commonwealth Avenue. Authorities will decide if they can repair the leak, or if they will be forced to remove the section and replace it.
Department of General Services spokesman Dan Egan said a gas odor was detected in the North Office Building next to the Capitol building at around noon.
About 375 employees were evacuated from the office building and sent home for the day.
Egan said Commonwealth Avenue from North Street to North Drive will remain closed until at least the weekend. No decision was immediately made on the closure of the North Office Building.
No other buildings on the Capital Complex are affected.
