Vigil planned for Lancaster Co. girl, 10, killed by stray bullet

MANHEIM, Pa. (WHTM) -

A candlelight vigil is being planned for a 10-year-old Lancaster County girl who died yesterday after being struck in the head by a stray bullet on New Year's Eve.

The vigil for Aaliyah Boyer will be held on the square in Manheim from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday.

Neighbors planning the vigil say Boyer was a sweet girl who you always saw running -- and never walking.

Boyer, of Manheim, died Thursday morning at A.I. DuPont Children's Hospital in Wilmington, where she had been in critical condition since the incident Tuesday night, according to a family spokesman.

Boyer had been watching a fireworks display in Elkton, Maryland when she was struck by the stray bullet that apparently had been fired as part of the New Year's celebration.

Police have not determined out who fired the shot.

Aaliyah's mother told WPVI-TV in Philadelphia that her home in Delaware has been burglarized since the shooting, and all of the children's Christmas presents were stolen. Aaliyah lived with her grandmother.

She also told the television station that there have been fake Facebook funds set up to raise money for the family.

She said the correct information would be made public once a memorial account is set up.
