Crews spend weekend working on Harrisburg sinkhole

Posted: Updated:
HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Crews in Harrisburg are spending the weekend working on the massive 4th Street sinkhole.

City officials say people living on that street will be out of their homes for quite some time. The Red Cross is helping over a dozen families now, and that number is expected to grow.

City spokesperson Bob Philbin says the Harrisburg YWCA is offering its shower facilities from 8am to 10pm until further notice.

Gas was restored to the neighborhood on Friday. Temporary water and sewer units are expected to be complete by the middle of next week. The new water and sewer system should be completed in about a month.
