Roanoke Fire - EMS officials say the cause of this morning's fire in Roanoke has been ruled electrical in nature and accidental.

Roanoke, VA – Five people are lucky to be alive after an intense early morning fire engulfed a home they were in. The fire kept dozens of Roanoke Fire and EMS crews busy early Sunday morning.

According to Roanoke Fire –EMS spokesperson Tiffany Bradbury, the call for the fire came in around 2:13 a.m. Sunday.

When firefighters arrived at 1437 Lafayette Blvd. N.W., they found "heavy fire conditions in the basement and intolerable smoke conditions throughout the rest of the house," Bradbury said in a statement.

Three people inside the home escaped and were on the front porch when firefighters arrived. Two more occupants had to be rescued by firefighters.

All five fire victims were transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for observation and smoke inhalation treatment.

The fire was under control by 2:42 a.m.

A total of four engines, one ladder truck, six ambulances, two battalion chiefs, the EMS supervisor, the investigation unit, and the Deputy Fire Marshal responded for a total of 34 personnel on scene.

Once released from the hospital all, occupants will be staying with relatives.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation and damage estimates are approximately $40,000.

There were no working smoke detectors in the house.
